Swedish beauty tech firm Foreo has made what it claims is a “giant leap” forward in personalised skincare, unveiling the world's “smartest and smallest beauty coach in the form of the AI enabled smart facial cleansing device - the Luna fofo.”

Incorporating machine learning and personalisation features, it’s designed to give users their skin age, rate their skin out of 100, report on hydration percentages and then with this personal data, customise the cleansing routine to improve results. Owners are advised to use the analysis sensors once every two weeks to check progress, but once the routine is saved they simply turn on the device and let it work.

It “ushers in the era of personalised skincare accessible at the touch of a button,” we’re told, with the launch following a test phase with the beta version that was released in the US during July.

The company said the test saw it shipping 900,000 Luna fofos to consumers in partnership with the FabFitFun Beauty Subscription site, since when its skincare algorithm “has been getting smarter by the day - clocking up an impressive 700 years worth of intelligence in the last two months alone and almost 1 million skincare consultations to-date.”

Foreo CEO Filip Sedic said the new device “is capable of self-learning and is differentiated from other skincare products by its ability to advance day after day.”

Future plans include adding functionality to detect air quality and the user's skin condition in real time.
