John Lewis enjoyed another strong sales uplift in the seven days to September 16 as turnover rose 7.6% to £85.4 million. And what was behind the rise?

Fashion was the star performer at John Lewis once again last week

Well fashion played a big part in the increase as the company’s Fashion division saw an 18.4% sales surge. Both men’s and womenswear saw double-digit growth, with autumn/winter clothing driving the sales hike.

The company’s fashion unit has had a very good year for most of 2017 and own brands have been key to this.

Own brand womenswear in particular saw strong sales in the latest seven days and once again the new Eudon Choi x Modern Rarity collection did well. It had already made an impact in the previous week but this was its first full week in the stores and online.

Elsewhere, beauty was up 10%, supported by new launches, and fragrance also enjoyed a good week with sales up 9%.

And the company had good news on Home division sales as the unit that's struggled for much of the year saw a 5.8% rise. Gifts, cook & dine saw growth of 7.6%, driven by back-to-university demand, and textiles & home accessories were up 7.7%. Blinds also enjoyed a good week, with sales up 12%.
