Robert Geller debuts new label Gustav von Aschenbach at NYFW: Men's

Robert Geller debuted on Tuesday his new menswear label, Gustav von Aschenbach, at Cadillac House for New York Fashion Week: Men’s.

Geller’s namesake label, which has been in business for 10 years, took a back seat this season, in favor of a see-now-buy-now format, and left room for the new label that is named after the main character in the novel Death in Venice.

The New York City-based designer describes Gustav von Aschenbach as a much simpler line, in comparison to his eponymous label. Patterns are almost absent in the brand’s inaugural collection, making way for voluminous silhouettes and bold colors.

At Cadillac House, models in the inaugural Gustav von Aschenbach collection stood in front of wooden doors that were painted the same color as their outfit. Blue, red and mustard monochromatic outfits were on display near matching doors, while grey, natural and black looks had neutral doors.

The tailoring of the spring 2018 collection is much like the designs of Geller’s namesake label, with cropped trousers, long coats, and avant-garde wide leg trousers. The slightly oversized silhouettes are crafted with Japanese fabrics and simultaneously reference traditional workwear sensibilities and evolve modern fits.

Geller said at his event in June for the GST200RBG-1 watch with Casio that Gustav von Aschenbach provides solutions that his namesake label cannot. Gustav von Aschenbach is more accessible since it is less expensive in price point than the Robert Geller brand and very understated. The spring 2018 collection is much more concise as well, which proves that Geller knows just exactly what he wants to say with the new line.
