Five years after its creation, the Israeli-American visual search shopping specialist has announced that it has closed a $6.5 million (€5.74 million) funding round led by Matrix Partners and with participants including executives from Alibaba, Google and Intel, bringing its total funding since its launch to $10 million.

The company has positioned itself on the very promising "visual Shazam" market of tools using an image to find similar looks or products through a search engine.

Last year, Donde Search's collaboration with Forever 21 enabled the retailer to grow its average purchase value by 20 percent as a result of the search algorithm.

“One of the interesting pieces about Donde is that it’s language agnostic,” co-founder Liat Zakay explained to Tech Crunch. “You don’t need to know what it’s called and it doesn’t matter what language you speak, you can still find what you want based on visual features. Which makes us extremely relevant to global retailers.”

Co-founded by Or Ron, Shai Katzir and Liat Zakay, its current CEO, the company also offers an autocompletion feature of a list of words associated with a product on a shopping portal. The recognition tool recognises different colour shades or the type of cut on the product -- a detail which is significant in the era of referencing on fashion marketplaces, and also in the age of fast fashion.
