Since opening in 2017, Acne Studios’ Shibuya-Tokyo store has been home to the brand’s most unique collections. Conceived of as a “project store”, the retail space first showcased the brand’s Blå Konst denim line and then the Fjällräven collaboration last year. The 68-square-metre space will now retail the brand’s latest line of leather goods for almost the next 12 months.

Among the products now available in store, which has been redecorated for the launch with help from design company Kasthall, are two iconic bags by Acne Studio’s own brand Musubi & Baker as well as small leather goods, card holders, key rings, and other wallets. The capsule collection of accessories was created specially for the launch and feature red stitching and metal eyelets. The items are available at the Tokyo store as well as on the brand’s e-commerce site. The collection takes centre stage both in an on the storefront which features a large image of the new version of the classic Musubi & Baker bag.

Acne Studios recently saw a change in its minority shareholders with the replacement of the Öresund, Creades and Pan Capital funds with IDG Capital and the clothing business I.T. Group. The brand is bullish on the Asian market and the brand already has retail outlets in Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan. Acne Studios is also currently expanding in China: The brand opened a store in Beijing in 2018 and plans to open one in Chengdu in mid-April. This will bring the brand’s store total to 59. The brand, founded in 1996 by Jonny Johansson, reported a revenue total of €200 million ($225.5 million).
