The US bankruptcy filing of the David’s Bridal business has been echoed in the UK with the firm’s British arm seeing Moorfields Advisory appointed administrators to the failed business.

Andy Pear and Milan Vuceljic, Partners at Moorfields, were appointed joint administrators of the UK arm that’s a subsidiary of the US business.

They said the four David’s Bridal stores in London, Watford, Birmingham and Glasgow remain open, and the company “intends fulfilling customer orders without disruption or delay”.

The company, which employs 150 people in Britain, will operate as usual to meet existing orders, while Moorfields is also conducting a stock liquidation through the retail outlets.

Given that the usual consumer concerns about whether orders placed with failed firms will go through are magnified when those orders are for wedding dresses, news that they’re being honoured will come as some relief to customers. However, they might be less happy if they paid full price given that Moorfields is also promising large discounts for those seeking a bargain and buying the remaining stock.

Andy Pear said: “Like many retailers David’s Bridal has faced challenges resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic and uncertain economic conditions. We are working with our US counterparties to help deliver all current orders to customers and customers should contact their store with any questions.”
