US e-tail giant Amazon continues to expand its fashion range by introducing Meraki, a new line of modern essentials for men and women. The initial range, available on a dedicated section of Amazon’s website, features forty women’s items and double the number of men’s items.

The line includes jeans (€30), t-shirts (€17), down jackets (€65), cardigans (€35), blazers (€70) and fitted shirts (€25), and benefits from the Amazon Prime dedicated delivery programme.

“Meraki was created to offer everyone who comes to Amazon his or her favourite wardrobe essential; that go-to piece you rely on time and time again,” said Frances Russell, Amazon Fashion Europe’s Private Brands Vice President. “We aim to deliver the best for our customers whether it’s a modern blazer, a simple cotton shirt, T-shirt or chino,” added Russel.

Fashion is one of Amazon’s best-selling products categories. The US group launched its own apparel brand Find last year, followed by an activewear range, a dedicated label for evening dresses, Truth & Fable, and a lingerie label, Iris & Lilly. In addition, Amazon created the Prime Wardrobe programme: customers who order three apparel items or more, will receive a box with more garments to try out, with the option of returning any unwanted ones.

In the 2017 financial year, Amazon recorded sales for $177.9 billion (€142.5 billion), up 31%. In the same period, net income grew from $2.4 billion to $3 billion (€2.4 billion), while operating income shrunk by 2% to $4.1 billion.
