This month’s Fashion Awards 2021 will be hosted by Billy Porter. The actor, singer, director, composer, and playwright will take centre stage at the British Fashion Council (BFC) awards ceremony, taking place on 29 November at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

With this year’s event, presented by TikTok, “evolving into a global entertainment platform to celebrate fashion’s role at the intersection of culture”, Porter is well-chosen as one of the most recognisable entertainers in the industry.

He’s graced the red carpet in couture masterpieces and is seen as a style icon "who uses fashion as a means of self-expression and communication”, said the BFC.

Speaking on Zoom, he described his involvement at the Awards as evidence that he has finally been embraced by the industry. “I have been a fashion person for my entire life. To be inside of the fashion conversation for real is a manifestation of what I always dreamed could be possible,” the Guardian newspaper quoted him as saying.

Apart from the awards ceremony, this year’s programme also includes performances and “unique cultural highlights of the past year”, the body added.

Five nominees for the The BFC’s coveted Designer of the Year title were announced late last month. These include Daniel Lee for Bottega Veneta, Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga, Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson and Loewe, Kim Jones for Dior Men and Fendi, and Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons for Prada.
