Cosmoprof postpones giant Bologna trade show until June on coronavirus outbreak

Another day, another major trade show is postponed or cancelled. This time it’s Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna, the world’s premier cosmetics industry show that takes place in the Italian city every year.

Cosmoprof has been postponed

The event had been scheduled for March 12 to 15 and with the ongoing coronavirus problems in Asia, as well as Italy being the worst-affected European country so far, its postponement isn’t a surprise.

The event has now been moved to three months’ later with plans for it to happen on June 11 to 15.

Italy saw a spike in coronavirus cases over the weekend, rising from only three confirmed cases to over 200. There have been six deaths with 11 towns being quarantined.

In a statement, Cosmorpof’s organiser, Gianpiero Calzolari who’s president of BolognaFiere, said: “The latest news concerning new coronavirus in Italy has forced us to review our positions. In agreement with the regional government of Emilia-Romagna and with the municipality of Bologna, we have assessed the situation, and postponing the event is currently the most correct solution, to support Italian institutions engaged today in protecting our health.”

The news followed Monday’s announcement of the postponement of Luxe Pack Shanghai. However, Beauty Düsseldorf is still planned to go ahead in Germany on March 6 to 8.

Cosmoprof in Bologna generally attracts around 265,000 visitors and more than 3,000 companies show at the event. So it’s understandable why the organisers are keen to reschedule as fast as possible. The organisers said that the programme planned for the March event will be largely unchanged for the show in June.
