De Rigo Vision, a leading manufacturer and distributor of high-end eyewear, has announced a new acquisition. The Italian group signed a contract for a controlling interest in REM Eyewear, one of the top US eyewear distributors, based in Los Angeles.

The operation is designed to strengthen De Rigo's distribution platform on the American market. The distribution business will be consolidated into a single entity, designated as De Rigo REM. The company will build a widespread sales network, which will allow it to exploit the development opportunities on the US opticians market afforded by De Rigo's varied brand portfolio.

Thanks to the acquisition, De Rigo will also be able to broaden its portfolio, by adding prestigious US brands such as Converse, John Varvatos, Lucky Brand, Jones New York and Jonathan Adler.

"I am proud to announce the agreement with REM, whose family business culture we share, it being one of the keys in our respective companies' success. Combining the cultural heritage of Mike Hundert and Donna Gindy's company with our group will allow us to boost De Rigo Vision's global distributive capabilities," stated Ennio De Rigo, founder and President of the De Rigo group.

REM Chairman Gerry Hundert, 90, has said about the acquisition: "The alliance between REM and De Rigo is the crowing achievement of 45 years in business. It guarantees our company's future and our staff's professional development, in the context of the sort of family business culture which has always been one of our distinctive traits." “This alliance”, added Mike Hundert, REM's CEO, “will allow REM to strengthen its presence on the US market thanks to De Rigo Vision's extensive brand portfolio”.
