E-commerce: Google to introduce its "Buy" button on mobiles

The next weeks should see the arrival of a "Buy" button in Google search results. An operation with which the American group plans gain the upper hand on Amazon and eBay. Macy’s may take part in the launch.

The Wall Street Journal reported the story on Friday, citing internal sources. The button will first be used on sponsored search results. Clicking on the button will send the shopper to another Google product page where they will be able to choose their options and finalise the purchase. The product will still be provided and sold by retailers. With this move, the Internet giant seems to be morphing from a simple source of traffic to a major online marketplace.

Google recently said that searches on mobile devices now outnumber those on personal computers in 10 countries, including the U.S. and Japan.

Other than Macy’s, Google is supposedly currently trying to attract other prestigious labels and chains but needs to convince them that the new system will not change their relations with buyers and that it will be beneficial for all parties involved.
