Danish footwear specialist Ecco has launched a new sneaker offer with the debut of Ecco Athletic Leisure Club. Bringing together its existing sports footwear and new designs, it’s all about shoes designed both for both performance-focused wearers and those who just want comfort.

As the company taps into the still-growing gym/track-to-street athleisure trend, the new collection “takes cues from the golden age of 90’s hip hop trainers, and is inspired by ‘Gorpcore’, bringing outdoor tech into the stylings of sneakers”, the company said.

Built for “bounce and speed”, the foundation of the full collection features midsoles using a proprietary Ecco Phorene material for "remarkably soft, ultralight comfort”.

The concept launches at retail this autumn with the company planning a number of launch and marketing activities such as community partnerships and activations “to bring the club and experience to life”. And it said that “from local artists to fashion students and up-and-coming musical talent, this new platform from Ecco will enable creators, to engage communities around the world”.

Business unit leader at the company Nikolai Rabæk Christensen said that the Athletic Leisure Club “is the best of Ecco’s sports-inspired and outdoor footwear collections brought together within an exciting new direction. Celebrating the spirit and duality of athletic and leisure has been the focus for design and product development, leaning on our authority as a leading shoemaker that develops unique innovations, from materials to technical comfort solutions, has shaped our expansion into the casual, trainer market and created real exploration that promises to evolve.

“EccoAthletic Leisure Club is an important and exciting development for [us]. Bringing together cohesive and directional styles that cater for the way we live today”.

Key styles include Ecco Exostrike in both trainer and boot styles; the Zipflex, with a distinctive sole design; and the wavy Elo, all featuring utilitarian elastic laces for “easy on, easy go, through work, gym, and play”.
