Ellesse, the premium sportswear brand, is planning a return to the North American market under the leadership of new brand director Simon Breckon.

The label owned by Pentland Brands said the relaunch will see it release limited footwear and clothing collections in select retailers, including Urban Outfitters and Footlocker, starting in the US in December.

The move is part of an overhaul to tap into the brand’s athleisure heritage and take advantage of the casualwear trend that has swept through the fashion world over the last years. Because of this, the timing is “ideal” for Ellesse to return to North America, it said.

It also recently appointed a new brand director to lead the business as it continues to expand into strategic markets, such as China.

With a particular focus on Ellesse’s retro styles, the collections launching in North America in the fall and spring seasons will feature chunky outsoles, oversized logos and other classical elements.

“Winning with style has always been the hallmark of the Ellesse brand. Our approach to storytelling through bold color and style will resonate with a variety of consumers here in the United States,” said Robert Dundon, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Pentland USA.

“We’re looking forward to reintroducing the brand into the market and building Ellesse into a truly global sportswear brand.”

Founded in the late 50s, Ellesse has now a presence in 55 territories worldwide.
