Ennio Fontana’s career is going from strength to strength, as he prepares to take the helm of another major international fashion name. FashionNetwork.com can exclusively reveal that Fontana will be the new managing director of Dsquared2, effective from March 1. He succeeds Sergio Azzolari, who joined the Caten brothers’ label as CEO in April 2022.

“We are delighted to welcome Ennio into our team. His extensive experience in the fashion industry, combined with his strategic vision and leadership skills make him the ideal candidate to lead Dsquared2 through the next stages of its expansion,” said Dean and Dan Caten. Fontana’s mission will be to boost the growth of the label's international business and develop the company's expansion strategies, with the aim of strengthening its market position.

“It is an honour and privilege for me to be able to work with Dean and Dan Caten and their entire team. I have always regarded Dsquared2 as a benchmark brand, and I am sure that I can make an important contribution to its future growth,” said Fontana.

Fontana has a degree in business and economics from the University of Passau in Germany, and has held leadership roles in major luxury groups, such as Tod’s and Philipp Plein. From October 2020 to February 2023, he was managing director of Roberto Cavalli, the Tuscan luxury label that was acquired in November 2019 by Damac, a group owned by Dubai tycoon Hussain Sajwani.

Dsquared2 was founded in 1995 and over time has become one of Italy’s most dynamic fashion labels, under the creative aegis of Dean and Dan Caten, twin brothers from Toronto, Canada. The label’s style is an original and recognisable mix of traditional Canadian iconography, contemporary Italian tailoring, a playful, upbeat sensuality, and a tinge of irreverent cheek. The Dsquared2 collections are sold via some 90 retail addresses, between monobrand stores and shop-in-shops. They are produced in Italy, embodying the label's motto ‘born in Canada, made in Italy’.
