TOKYO, Japan - Fast Retailing Co said on Tuesday that same-store sales at its Uniqlo clothing chain in Japan jumped 28.9 percent in August from a year earlier on strong demand for summer clothing due to hot weather.

Asia's top apparel retailer gets the bulk of its profits from Uniqlo Japan but is currently working on expansion in the United States.

Uniqlo has announced the fall opening dates for its ten new mall stores in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and California. With the opening of the new stores in October and November, the brand will have a total of 17 stores in the U.S., in addition to the Uniqlo.com online shopping platform.
