H&M, the Swedish fashion retailer, has a long track record of interesting collaborations. Most recently it announced that Caitlyn Jenner will be the face of its Sport campaign, and now the company has teamed up with singer and artist M.I.A.

The collaboration is for World Recycle Week, H&M's latest global initiative, which will take place on April 18-24. M.I.A. will release a new music video for the initiative, which will also feature an ambitious Garment Collecting activity. M.I.A.'s video will highlight the environmental of clothes going to landfills globally and will be released on April 11.

For Global Recycle Week, H&M's aim is to collect 1,000 tonnes of unwanted garments from customers in its over 3,600 stores. H&M has collected garments for recycling since 2013 and since then, it has received over 25,000 tonnes of clothes from customers, who receive H&M vouchers in return. Two years ago, the company introduced its first garments to use recycled textile fibres.

During World Recycle Week, H&M will also work with bloggers and characters from the M.I.A. video who will show the pieces they’re recycling through the H&M Garment Collecting project. H&M hopes to "Close the Loop", so that unwanted clothes get reused and recycled, and the ultimate goal is to have zero garments go to landfill.

H&M also just released its latest sales results, showing that its sales growth missed forecasts in February, due to markdowns to shift winter stocks.
