Marcolin has added another fashion license to its portfolio of eyewear brands in a deal with GCDS, the clothing and accessory brand founded by brothers Giordano and Giuliano Calza.

GCDS/Marcolin

The exclusive global partnership covers the design, production and distribution of sunglasses and eyeglasses under the GCDS brand for a five-year period starting next year.

Marcolin-produced sunglasses had already been seen at the brand’s runway show back in September and the eyewear giant said that “irony, experimentation and street style are the key elements distinguishing the heart and soul of GCDS and the new SS2020 models”.

The frames combine “sports lines, technical materials and vibrant colours. Original, modern shapes alternate with sporty, oversized wraparound frames, while all are embellished with the brand's maxi-sized logo,” we’re told.

Marcolin’s CEO Massimo Renon described GCDS as “a young and versatile brand, a benchmark in the luxury street style field” and said his company is “taking a further step towards the diversification of its portfolio” with this deal.

Meanwhile, GCDS CEO Giordano Calza added that the partnership “represents an important expansion of GCDS’s accessory portfolio. We took the strategic decision to work alongside an Italian partner that is a worldwide eyewear leading company”.

The frames will launch next April on the GCDS website and in its stores, as well as “on a select number of e-commerce platforms”. Wider international distribution in the optical channel will then follow in the second half of 2020.
