German designer Philipp Plein has opened his first monobrand store in Bucharest, signalling his brand entry in to the Romanian market.

Located in The Grand Avenue, on the JW Marriott Grand Hotel’s ground floor, the new Bucharest flagship covers 82 square meters. Plein tapped Claudio Pironi, a well-known Italian design house, to design the new store, which has available the most recent Philipp Plein collections for men and women.

The store entry boasts a gargantuan skull made of Swarovski crystals, a moniker of the Philipp Plein brand. Inside, black marble creates a refined and luxurious, emphasising a hard-edged minimalism.

The news comes after a year of drastic announcements for Philipp Plein. The luxury brand is planning to show at the New York womenswear fashion week from next February -- instead of Milan -- with a mixed show for the first time presenting the men's and women's collections together. Still loyal to Italy, the brand also recently opened its new 3,000 square metre headquarters featuring an enormous showroom in Milan

As well as the recent Bucharest store debut, Plein opened a sports-dedicated boutique in Paris last December, with one to follow in Amsterdam. It also plans to ramp up its US operations; earlier in the year appointing Graziano de Boni, a former manager at Armani, as head of its US subsidiary.

Philipp Plein boasts some 100 mono-brand stores worldwide.
