The company said consumers started their Christmas shopping earlier than usual. News reports of likely shortages and speculation around increased Covid restrictions in late summer and autumn seem to have spooked them into prompt shopping activity.

But that doesn't mean The Perfume Shop’s sales tailed off towards the end of the shopping season as the company also said sales in the week before Christmas were particularly strong. In fact they accounted for 27% of Christmas sales for the business.

The company sold as many as 1.9 million bottles of fragrance in the month leading up to the big day and gift set sales rose by 7% year-on-year.

The firm’s bestsellers included some of the the biggest names in fragrance such as Dior Sauvage, Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle and Paco Rabanne 1 Million.
