Consumer goods company The Honest Company announced on Monday a beauty relaunch, which includes a new sustainable packaging initiative and skincare line.

As part of the initiative, over 100 SKUs were updated to leverage 100 percent recyclable cartons using 100 percent tree-free paper made from upcycled sugarcane by-product. Other updates to the primary packaging to utilize more environmentally-friendly materials include, glass droppers, aluminium tubes, tin compacts, PCR materials and mono-material components whenever possible for easier recycling. Honest will be tracking the impact of using tree-free cartons quarterly on its website.

Likewise, Honest is launching the Daily Defense Collection, a new line of skincare products designed to defend skin against environmental aggressors, as part of the sustainable packaging initiative. The collection includes four new products formulated with 'Sea Concentrate'.

“From day one, we’ve placed the utmost importance on product efficacy, formula integrity and ingredient quality – packaging is the next step in our journey of continuous improvement,” said Jessica Alba, founder and chief creative officer, The Honest Company.

“As pioneers in clean beauty, I am energized that we are able to raise the standard for the industry at large, and demonstrate what is possible to achieve at scale while we continue to deliver on our mission to inspire everyone to love living consciously.”

In May, Honest was valued at $1.92 billion in its Nasdaq debut, after its shares opened 33 percent above their offer price. The Los Angeles-based company's offerings include eco-friendly baby products, vitamins, sunscreen lotions, sanitizers and more that are sold online and through partnerships with brick-and-mortar stores including Costco and Target.
