In a sign that this summer could potentially be a strong one for seasonal fashion, members-only shopping app Wholee Prime said on Wednesday that sales of summer fashion items have surged in the past week.

Following Prime minister Boris Johnson unveiling his ‘roadmap’ out of lockdown for England, the Singapore-based company, which has a zero-mark-up pricing model, said it has seen week-on-week sales of sunglasses and sunhats increase by over 600%

Its swimwear range for women and men has also recorded a seven-fold increase compared to the pre-lockdown period. Top selling items have included the app's Lotus Leaf Shoulder Bikini for women and men's Thai-style swimming shorts.

And with the prospect that Britons might be able to travel abroad this summer, sales of travel suitcases, beach towels, and men's flip-flops have increased by 220%, 160% and 100% respectively.

The news comes as the travel industry has reported a 300% increase in enquiries since the roadmap was unveiled, suggesting consumers have the money available to go abroad for their holidays and are happy to consider travelling on the basis of the successful UK vaccination rollout.

Wholee Prime launched last year with an innovative business model whereby users only pay for the production cost on millions of products as set by the manufacturer. The app gets its money from membership fees and claims more than 2 million downloads on Google Play and Apple's App Store.
