The company announced on Wednesday via its official website and social media channels that the collaboration has been postponed to May 27. The collection was set to launch on Yeezygap.com and Balenciaga online partners Farfetch.com, Mytheresa.com and LuisaViaRoma.com.

“In light of the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, we are postponing the Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga launch until Friday, May 27,” the company said in an official statement. “As we pause, our hearts go out to the families and communities impacted.”

On Tuesday, a gunman fatally shot 19 children and two adults at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, marking the second-deadliest school shooting since 2012.

Gap struck a 10-year deal with Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) to create the Yeezy Gap line in June 2020, and has since released several drops. It was revealed in January that the brand would team up with Balenciaga creative director Demna [formerly Demna Gvasalia], for a new collaboration under Yeezy Gap.

In February, the brand released the first eight styles of a 25-piece collection reflecting timeless silhouettes translated through the lens of Ye and Demna's shared vision of utilitarian design.

Friday’s drop will be the largest to date.
