YouCam Makeup, the virtual makeup try-on solution developed by Perfect Corp, has launched a Shopify plug-in, allowing cosmetics merchants using the platform to offer customers AR beauty services.

The YouCam Makeup Shopify application lets shoppers virtually try on cosmetics products in real time through their webcams and can be integrated directly into the Shopify e-commerce sites of beauty merchants.

Products that consumers can try on through the plug-in cover a number of different cosmetics categories, including lip, cheek and eye makeup. The application features 25 themed template designs, true-to-life color and texture matching, making for a “hyper-realistic” virtual beauty experience.

According to Perfect Corp, virtual makeup try-on services increase customer engagement, have been proven to drive conversion by up to 2.5x and also lead to a decline in returns.

“The beauty industry has one of the highest levels of personal involvement, as the buyer puts a lot of time and effort into research and evaluation before making their final purchase decision,” explained Perfect Corp founder and CEO Alice Chang in a release. “Therefore beauty brands are challenged to create digital retail environments that offer the enjoyment of one-on-one interactions combined with the convenience of digital try-before-you-buy solutions.”

“We are excited to launch the new ‘YouCam Makeup’ app for Shopify to allow beauty merchants to deliver customized, interactive online beauty shopping experiences to their consumers through hyper-realistic AR virtual beauty tech,” she concluded.

Having launched in 2014, Taiwan-based Perfect Corp. has secured partnerships with everyone from U.S. beauty retailer Ulta Beauty to Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. In July 2019, the company opened its AR services up for use by small and medium-sized businesses with the launch of YouCam for Web.

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Perfect Corp has taken a range of actions to support cosmetics retailers. In March, for example, the company temporarily offered beauty brands access to a complimentary AR live training service so that they could keep their employees up to date from a distance.

Later, when brick-and-mortar stores began to reopen, the company also introduced new non-touch features to its in-store try-on solution.

Shopify merchants interested in integrating the YouCam Makeup app into their e-commerce stores can experiment the service with a free demo.
