British Fashion Council publishes fashion designer survival guide

Published
May 22, 2014

In collaboration with the commercial real estate company Land Securities, the British Fashion Council (BFC) has published a guide for young British designers on how to succeed in fashion. The guide is free and available on the BFC's website, a result of a first-time collaboration with the London Business School. The publication was produced by students from the school with the help of many industry players, designers, CEO, buyers, and journalists.

"The British Fashion Council (BFC), commissioned this report in collaboration with the London Business School (LBS) to investigate whether there is a formula for successfully commercialising creativity in the fashion industry," writes Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council. "We aim to encourage more MBA graduates to pursue rewarding careers in the sector, working with British designers to assist them in fulfilling their potential for growth."

Besides the case study and the survival guide, "Commercialising Creativity" also provides a series of recommendations for future entrepreneurs, including a review of all support options available to designers in Great Britain. The twenty-page report covers designers as diverse as Nicholas Kirkwood, Mary Katrantzou and Stella McCartney and also offers advice that applies to the fashion industry outside of the U.K.

The report can be downloaded for free on the BFC's website.
