Trendstop: Key Materials Trends for AW 2016/17

Published

A must-see event for fashion professionals around the world, Premiere Vision Fabrics draws thousands of visitors to its bi-annual Paris trade show each season. As one of the world’s leading fabric destinations, the fair showcases directional collections by more than 750 exhibitors from 35 different countries, revealing essential new season fashion directions 18 months in advance. For the Fall/Winter 2016-17 edition, Premiere Vision combined cultural, creative and technological concepts for a fresh modern-day appeal. Styles blended industry and futurism with contemporary crafts and rustic nature, making for a forward aesthetic based firmly in the now. Autumnal comfort was also key to new fabric collections, with concepts of ‘flawed beauty’ adding a softly distressed twist to lightweight suitings, padding and quilting. Here, Trendstop blog readers are presented with three inspirational new materials trends analyzed from Premiere Vision Paris Fall/Winter 2016-17.

Lunar Crinkle

Technical materials evolve with crisp, crunchy finishes to create a crinkled effect. To create a futuristic look, a lunar-inspired glow can be applied to cratered surfaces with the use of shimmering metallic finishes or dark Space Age colorways.

Soft Pixels

High-tech pixel prints are softened for Fall/Winter with subdued tones and blurry effects, revamping fabrics with a contemporary digitized aesthetic. For a high-end appeal, technical designs translate to luxury level with burn-out lacy textures and satin finishes.

Perfect for new winter collections, we see cozy knits executed in soft wooly yarns that look reminiscent of traditional Scandinavian patterns. Meanwhile, Nordic interiors inspire graphic upholstery prints with a retro feel. Surfaces run the gamut from soft to rustic.
