The Olympic games always revive the fashion world's obsession with sports so it wasn't a surprise post Rio Olympics to discover the latest romanticisation of active wear.

Cyclist shorts and onesies are slowly emerging on the Spring Summer 2017 catwalk, only marginally so far but we predict this being a 'statement' style to watch. Alexander Wang, WGSM and Y:Project are a few of the designers who have adopted this trend, yet another recent example of 90’s nostalgia in fashion.

For over a century now, the cyclist has been used to enhance agility and performance in sports such as cycling and wresting. In the 90's it became a popular trend spearheaded by the likes of Neneh Cherry and Madonna, only to then make its way into popular culture via iconic TV shows and movies such as 'Clueless' and 'Saved by the Bell'.

2017's re-interpretation of the cycling shorts is bold and playful, tapping into colours that reflect the 90's signature clashing prints and colours and merging them with highly feminine elements such as large ruffles, rouching and high shine velvet.
